On Sunday seven divers departed Oysterhaven in gorgeous autumn sunshine to dive the City of Chicago. Conditions were ideal and after descending to the shallow shipwreck below divers enjoyed a variety of activities including a subaquatic golf ball hunt and a spot of underwater juggling. For those looking for more orthodox enjoyment there was something [...]

The first week in August is normally when the club takes a trip a little further afield than our regular diving takes us. Last week saw around sixteen club members head west to the Ring of Kerry for a week diving in Portmagee. Those who made the trip enjoyed great food, wine and comraderie and were [...]

While the club dive officer and her faithful assistant have been off on summer holidays for the last week, we’ve still managed to take in a spot of diving on the Great Barrier Reef out of Cairns. We signed up for a four day trip to Cod Hole with Taka dive . Features of the diving included giant [...]

Several steps. First, upload to flickr. – upload the photos into a flickr set. – copy the URL of the flickr set. Second, use flickrslidr.com to get the slideshow code. – go to http://flickrslidr.com/ – paste the url of the set into the space provided, set the size etc (I did 350 x 350). – [...]

The June bank holiday weekend saw CorkSAC head to Fethard on Sea, Co. Wexford for our usual mix of diving and socialising. On Saturday morning, in bright sunshine and beneath the walls of Slade Castle, we made our preparations to dive Three Mile Rock. Diving out of Slade harbour presents its own challenges as the harbour [...]

Thumbnail Almost a week before school kids all over Ireland begin their state exams, Wednesday night saw normal club diving take place amidst diver coxwain exams. The cork boat was full with divers, instructors and two of our own ‘L’ plate candidates undergoing their exam. There were also two candidates from the UCC club. As they [...]

Sadly the camera has been having a few issues and didn’t make the journey. Here’s some “file footage” from a couple of years ago though:

Those who ventured out into Cork Harbour today witnessed a special treat. After a dive on the Bream Rock a group of playful basking sharks swam in close proximity to the boat. They continued their crowd pleasing behaviour by making several passes in the water by the divers who had now become snorkelers. What a [...]

Thumbnail A good crowd of club members made their way to Dingle last week for the bank holiday weekend. Those down early enough on Friday were treated to incredible visibility diving in Smerwick harbour. We were lucky enough to have good weather Saturday morning and took the chance to take both boats to Great Blasket Island [...]

Lucie and I were lucky enough to visit dingle last weekend and do a couple of dives ahead of next weeks club trip to Dingle, Co. Kerry. It was a great weekend with Seals, Dolphins and the Sun all making an appearance. Here’s a short video of the highlights (apologies for the poor video quality [...]

Makes sense. Will require a bit more setup upfront to get everyone registered with the blog, but after that should be ok. I see I get emailed when you respond to something I write. Do you know if its possible for people who are currently using the Google Groups purely via email to do something similar with buddypress?

I wonder if rather than ’reinventing the wheel’ with the groups it would be better to embed our google groups page into the ’Groups’ tab like you’ve done with the calendar.

It’s not inbuilt, but apparently if you take the code used to embed the calendar and swap the calendar URL to be the gropus URL it works (see http://www.googlecommunity.com/forum/other-google-features/25242-embed-google-groups-html.html).

If groups were available there it would give us a single point of entry to everything through blog.corksac.info.

oh, I just noticed a forums tab. Not sure what the difference between forums and group is in wordpress. The google groups might fit better as a forum. Not sure.

Yeah, I’ve tried something like that before by embedding in a iframe. It’s ok, but the reasons for looking at an alternative to the Groups weren’t about the single point of entry. I think we could benefit from something that can be organised little better, like different groups for Training, discussing CFT rules and procedures, organising social events, whatever – just to make it easier for people to find stuff. Also, having some forums made public would help the club to reach out a bit better, and maybe remove some of the repetition in answering membership queries.

I’d probably do it gradually, say start with a discussion on ’club constitution’ – something a relatively small group will be interested in and use that to kick the tyres on it.

I’ve seen mention of plugins that will provide email notifications of Forum posts, but I think ’reply via email’ is still on the wish list.
